We are a family-run dairy farming business located just outside Blackburn, Lancashire, currently seeking a reliable and enthusiastic full time Assistant Herdsperson / General Farm to join our close-knit team.

About Us
We milk 200 Holstein / Crossbreed cows, calving all year round on a grass-based system.
Average yields of 9,600 litres, supplying First Milk.
Milking is done in a 16-point parlour.
Winter housing is in modern cubicle systems.
We rear 80 dairy replacements per year, with youngstock partly raised on a separate unit in South Cumbria.

Your Role

Working alongside the owner, youll assist in all aspects of the farm, including:

  • Milking (Shared milking between staff) and providing full cover for the Herd Manager when needed.
  • Shed, slurry, and cubicle management.
  • General dairy herd health and hygiene tasks.
  • Working with youngstock, including their daily care and management.
  • Feeding cows using a feeder wagon and basic fieldwork (rolling, topping, fencing).
  • Helping during silage and harvest seasons.
  • Basic machinery operation (tractor, krama driving, etc.).

Skills & Experience

  • Dairy and milking experience essential.
  • AI and foot trimming are desirable, but not essential.
  • Computer literacy and experience with dairy software would be a plus.
  • Competent with tractors and general farm machinery.
  • Strong team player, reliable, must be enthusiastic & motivated to learn.
