A large-scale, progressive dairy farm near Exeter, Devon, is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Farm Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day and strategic management of a high-performing milking herd. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing all aspects of dairy operations, including milking routines, herd health, fertility management, youngstock development, feeding regimes and maintaining exceptional animal welfare standards at all times. The farm operates modern milking systems and places strong emphasis on efficiency, data-led decision making and continual performance improvement.

You will be responsible for managing and developing a small, dedicated team, including organising staff rotas, training team members and ensuring high standards are consistently met across all areas of the business. The role also involves working closely with vets, nutritionists and other advisors to optimise herd performance, maintaining accurate farm records, managing compliance requirements and ensuring the farm operates in line with current regulations and best practices.

From an operational perspective, you will oversee feed planning, forage quality, silage production and storage, and play a key role in budgeting and cost control. You will also be involved in the use and coordination of machinery during busy periods, such as silage and harvest, ensuring that all equipment is properly maintained and utilised efficiently. A good understanding of grassland management and pasture-based systems would be highly beneficial.

This position would suit someone who is commercially aware, forward-thinking and confident in making decisions that impact both productivity and profitability. The ideal candidate will have strong dairy experience, proven leadership skills and the ability to balance hands-on farm work with management responsibilities. Experience with herd management software and modern dairy technologies is desirable.

In return, the farm offers a highly competitive salary package, quality on-site accommodation, pension contributions, paid holiday and the opportunity to take full ownership of a well-invested and respected dairy enterprise.

This is a long-term opportunity for someone looking to advance their career in dairy farm management while enjoying a strong work-life balance in a supportive, professional environment.
